The New Forest

New Forest...

The New Forest is Britain's newest national park in Hampshire, in the south of England, UK. It is over 900 years old, having been created in 1079 by William I (William the Conqueror) as an area in which to hunt deer.

The Forest is some 93,000 acres (145 square miles) in area and is the largest unenclosed area in Southern England. The New Forest consists of a mixture of native deciduous and coniferous woodland, heaths, bogs, streams and estuaries. Ponies, cattle and pigs are allowed to roam freely, but are privately owned.

Cycling, riding and walking are all excellent ways to explore the beautiful countryside that the New Forest has to offer.

Car free Tourism

The New Forest National Park and it's residents are very conscious of the impact that is caused every day by motor vehicles on this national treasure. Therefore we are trying to help reduce the amount of cars driving through the forest by promoting car free tourism.

To get here, Brockenhurst and Ashurst are only 90 mins from Waterloo by train, then you can either cycle, take a taxi or even use the open top tour bus to arrive in Lyndhurst. There is also a very good bus service which is linked to all major towns and cities.

Once you are here the best way to appreciate the New Forest is to get out in the fresh air and explore! It has many hidden treasures that simply can't be seen from the road. You can walk, cycle, horse ride, Kayak, take the New Forest Tour bus, or take a normal bus.

So, there really is no need to use your car, so why not try leaving it at home and experience the real New Forest.
